A Special Encounter at the Exhibition Ronen Zien: Walking Into
Ronen Zien hosts artist Asad Azi
A conversation between two artists from different generations but from the same place, whose shared experiences will shed new light on the exhibition.
Ronen Zien, winner of the Lauren and Mitchell Presser Prize for a Young Israeli Photographer (2023), currently exhibiting his show "Walking Into" at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, explores the tension between pure memory and memory inherited through photography. Zien harnesses photography and video to examine the reliability of memory and the possibility of returning to distant recollections. In this exhibition, he returns to his childhood surroundings in northern Israel.
Asad Azi, a Druze-Israeli painter and poet, has exhibited his work in numerous galleries and museums both in Israel and abroad. His works are part of several prominent collections, including the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, and the Haifa City Museum. His primarily collage-based work is influenced by questions of personal, human, and political identity, reflecting his inner conflict regarding his identity as an individual caught between the polarities of Arabness and Israeliness, and the cultural-value-stylistic tension between East and West.
