CityFactory: Re-Creation

Special Project

CityFactory is an innovative initiative that merges art, community, and environmentalism, founded by artist Itamar Shimshony in 2021. The project integrates art, education, and sustainability to encourage social change, presenting a unique perspective on community building as a vibrant, living artwork where visitors become active participants.

For CityFactory: Re-Creation, the museum will establish a participatory factory aimed at giving discarded toys renewed value by transforming them into sculptures. Across Tel Aviv, unwanted toys are currently being collected from designated drop-off points, from which they will arrive at the factory production line to be sorted and cataloged. Visitors will be invited to come to the factory and breathe new life into these old toys and objects as part of a creative performative act.

Itamar Shimshony (born 1980) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Tel Aviv who works across the country. Primarily focusing on video and sculpture, he explores how contemporary life, climate change, and technology influence the art world. Shimshony employs ready-made techniques, promoting recreation with existing materials by using unwanted toys and discarded objects.
